Customer requirements at the heart of Pure Nutrition investment

Westland is improving its offering of nutritional milk powders through continued investment in the Pure Nutrition dairy blending, tubbing and canning facility at Rolleston, Canterbury.

The plant plays a key role in our execution of our “cow to can” integration of the supply chain, a seamless path which starts with milk produced from grass fed cows on our suppliers’ farms to the finished nutritional powdered product packaged for transport to our customers.

We develop, produce and supply value-added, high-quality nutritional powders

Pure Nutrition and others in the Yili Oceania group of companies develop, produce and supply value-added, high-quality nutritional powders, including infant formula, to global markets which aligns to the group’s vision to be recognised as a world-class health food provider. We benefit from Yili’s robust research and development network that spans multiple sites and draws on decades of nutritional expertise. This includes access to cutting-edge research from Innovation Centres in Europe, China and New Zealand ensuring our products remain at the forefront of nutritional science.

Our experienced formulation teams specialise in creating customised blends for infants and adults incorporating functional ingredients. For customers without their own recipes, we also offer fully formulated CODEX-compliant base powders tailored to various life stages – from infants to elderly.

Expansion of packaging options

Traditionally packaging options have ranged from 200g to 900g, with customised lid and scoop configurations to suit diverse market needs.  We now have new packaging capability with the 1kg tub line successfully commissioned following trials with both Whole Milk Powder (WMP) and Skim Milk Powder (SMP). Additional equipment, including the labelling system and foil seal capability, has been installed and commissioned, further expanding our packaging options.

Ongoing innovation and process improvement at Pure Nutrition

Another process improvement is the installation of a new gas mixing system, with associated pipeline upgrades completed. This investment will support ongoing product development and operational efficiency.

We continue to support innovation. Pure Nutrition is currently preparing for a new 800g colostrum product trial, demonstrating our ability to support specialised nutritional products and evolving customer requirements.

The Pure Nutrition team is also continuing to work with internal teams on future market opportunities and regulatory pathways to support long-term business growth.
