Westpro continues to receive positive feedback about its dairy ingredients, including skim milk powder and protein powders, from existing and new customers in both Vietnam and Thailand.

Jonathan Saunders, our Global Account Manager for South East Asia, visited Vietnam and Thailand in September. He also attended the Fi Asia Thailand 2025 food ingredients expo, an international trade fair in Bangkok Thailand, where more than 600 international suppliers showcased a range of products.

Vietnam – opportunities exist

Jonathan says Vietnam has historically been a very competitive market for dairy commodities as buyers are quite price-conscious. Demand for Anhydrous Milk Fat (AMF), an excellent source of milk fat, continues to be strong. He also receives regular enquiries for Westpro Skim Milk Powder from buyers looking apply this ingredient in bakery, confectionery, ice cream, yoghurt, and UHT milk applications.

We are seeing increased interest in dairy-based infant nutritional powders in Vietnam from existing customers as well as new market entrants. This presents an exciting opportunity for the Westpro team to leverage the strengths of our Yili Oceania Business Division management structure through supply of ingredients that are manufactured at the Oceania Dairy Limited plant in South Canterbury.

Thailand, looking for protein

Thailand continues to present strong opportunities for increased supply of our protein products such as Westpro TotalPRO™ Milk Protein Concentrate 70. The market for added-protein products such as Ready-to-Drink (RTD) beverages is alive and well. Demand for Westpro Skim Milk Powder is also strong, however exporters continue to face ongoing quantitative restrictions in the form of quotas as Thailand seeks to protect its local dairy industry.

Insights from the Fi Asia Thailand 2025 expo continued to support many of the current market trends. From a dairy ingredient perspective, there was a strong focus on an active lifestyle and sports nutrition. Promoters showcased a range of ingredients and applications aimed at delivering high-quality protein in an easy-to-consume format, such as RTD and Ready to Mix (RTM) beverages and bars.
